Kirrily's Kraft

The hobby of "scrapbooking" legitimises my long time passion for hoarding all sorts of tid-bits associated with my past. As I type I have just finished the very first page of our wedding album. Okay, so we got married 5 and a half years ago...these things take time!

I also enjoy dressmaking and at present and whipping up a new wardrobe for Term 3 at school. It consists of lots of fitted skirts and shirts - and lots of purple fabric! Now, the only trick is to introduce it slowly to the classroom so the students don't get too excited by seeing Mrs MacRaild in all these new clothes at once! (As all teachers out there would know - students notice clothing!).

Building dolls' houses is another hobby of mine and I sometimes dabble in paper craft.

16th April: As I type I am cooking a minestrone, only called so to glorify the leftovers from which it is being made. My latest success was a slow cooked lamb shank casserole with gravy made from tomatoes, beef stock and red wine. Yum Yum! The family gobbled it up. Stay tuned for my favourite recipes and tips.

8th July: Tonight is mini-meat loaves. Last night I made these wonderfully delicious veal rolls ups - strips of veal rolled around sticks of carrot and beans, topped with a drizzle of sweet soy and sherry sauce. Yum! Thanks must go to Super Food Ideas magazine (July, 2002) for my inspiration.

Kirrily's Komprehension

I am currently reading The Lord of the Rings, Part One: The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R.Tolkien and Cane River by Lalita Tademy. Do I normally read two books at once? No. Given the current trendy status of Lord of the Rings I thought I had better get out of my reading genre comfort zone and give it a try. I enjoyed The Hobbit, by the same author, but am finding The Fellowship of the Ring a little tedious at present. Not unenjoyable, but just not quite me enough to resist putting down in favour of a novel about women in slavery in Louisiana during the 19th Century. Apologies to any Tolkien fans. I do intend finishing Lord of the Rings at some stage.
